For the first time I read the press release below about the connection of Baby Einstein Video or DVD with my Baby brain, I am really surprised for that. many advertisement promote their baby video or DVD could make Our baby genius like Einstein if we buy it and make our first year baby watch it.

But after I found this pres release about Baby Einstein DVD cannot make our Baby genius, I totally change my mind before I buy that DVD. This is not gossip but it’s real from the research result by the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Institute.
You could find the full research story about baby Einstein that cannot make our Baby Genius here:

New Study Finds Baby DVDs and Videos May Hinder Infant Language Development:

Despite marketing claims, parents who want to give their infants a boost in learning language probably should limit the amount of time they expose their children to DVDs and videos such as “Baby Einstein” and “Brainy Baby.”

Rather than helping babies, the over-use of such productions actually may slow down infants eight to 16 months of age when it comes to acquiring vocabulary, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Hospital Research Institute.
The scientists found that for every hour per day spent watching baby DVDs and videos, infants understood an average of six to eight fewer words than infants who did not watch them. Baby DVDs and videos had no positive or negative effect on the vocabularies on toddlers 17 to 24 months of age. The study was published today in the Journal of Pediatrics.

“The most important fact to come from this study is there is no clear evidence of a benefit coming from baby DVDs and videos and there is some suggestion of harm,” said Frederick Zimmerman, lead author of the study and a UW associate professor of health services. “The bottom line is the more a child watches baby DVDs and videos the bigger the effect. The amount of viewing does matter.”

Really?
Do we really believe that Baby Genius isn’t leading children towards greater intelligence? Every child I know who was reared on BG is advanced, verbal and very intelligent.

I’m still a fan.

Goonie – There have been several studies and articles written on the negative effects of Baby Einstein as well as other DVD/VHS/CD series. Perhaps parents should revisit their thinking on this matter. Imagine a child who is miles ahead mentally and miles behind socially.
There are those who say that children raised w/ BG are advanced – however, could not the same be said of those children who weren’t raised the same?
In my opinion, we are pushing our children much to hard – could this be because some parents are trying to live their lives vicariously through their child’s achievements? It’s a fact that most killers have a high IQ – it’s their lack of social skills that send them over the edge.
Seung-Hui Cho is a prime example.

Absolutely agree with you Morgan, I think A good combination with brain and social brain could make the best balance for our child.

Very good points from all of you but i think the fact of the matter still remains if you choose to use the tv as a babysitter the dvd is terrible for your baby BUT if you limit the time they watch it it WILL NOT HURT i let my baby watch it on those days when i just need to get dinner made then off goes the dvd and back to just chatting with my baby like the article states “THE OVER-USE” can hurt the baby
