It used to be that the most popular baby names tend to be weird, quirky ones that end up embarrassing the kids upon adulthood, with odd mainstays such as Shalom, Elohin and other names taken out of cultural context. This was usually the result of the parents wanting their child to be unique and having no idea how to go about it except make the names unique. This resulted in the most popular baby names list looking like a grocery list for a foreign cuisine.
Fortunately for the kids, the trend of giving quirky, unique, and embarrassing baby names are starting to lose its steam, and is slowly being replaced by normal sounding names that are actually biblical in origin. The name Jacob is the most popular baby name for boys for 3 years now, and other biblical names are rising up in rank in a steady pace.
This remains true even for women, as the most popular baby names for girls are starting to become dually dominated by names with French and biblical origin, with biblical names placing as high as number four, and continuing unabated until the 19th spot.
This bodes well for future children, which means they will be spared the humiliation or the mental anguish of being teased just because their parents got too creative with names. That means these days having one of the most popular baby names does not necessarily equate to being the most teased kid in campus, and we can thank god for it
