Many parents are wondering what is the best age to start potty training their child. A child should feel comfortable when sitting on the potty and using the bathroom instead on continuously using the potty in their diaper. There are many steps that you should take into consideration when potty training your child. Make sure that they are able to have full balance of themselves before attempting to potty train your child. Potty training can become very messy at times because children like to play in it and smear it everywhere. But, at the same time your child is becoming potty trained.

Children should be able to walk and stand by themselves while maintaining their own balance and weight before trying to use the potty on their own. Parents that are trying to potty train their infants may try sitting them on the potty before giving their child a bath and before going to bed. If your child is trying to remove their diaper themselves then you should see what they do. Your child may try to pull you towards the potty or show you other signs when they are ready. Does your child come to you when he/she has a dirty diaper? If your child is letting you know that they have used the bathroom in their diaper then it is time to potty train them. When a child is ready to use the potty on their own, they will let you know.

Some children are afraid of the potty because of the water and the sound when using the potty. If your child becomes afraid to use the potty try to comfort them. Take them to the bathroom with you and show your child that there is nothing to be afraid of. You may also try giving your child something to drink before going to bed. Never try to force your child to use the potty because this may make the process slower and will take longer.

Some children take longer to use a potty chair because they never had an experience with it before. Some children are afraid of the sounds that the water makes when using the potty chair and because of how deep the water is. Toddlers will need to take time to adjust when using the bathroom in other places other than their diaper.

Other children may use the potty chair with no problem. Some toddlers are interested in what the potty chair is and how to use it. You will need to show your infant how to sit on the potty chair, wipe and flush the regular toilet to make sure that they know how to use the potty at all. You may teach your child on how to use the potty by showing them how to use it once or twice a day, until your child feels ready to use the potty more often. In the meantime, you may use pull ups on your child since you are now in the process of having your toddler potty trained.
