Coping up with nausea is a difficult issue during pregnancy. Some may experience nausea only in the first three months, while in some others it may prolong to the next three months also. But for some unfortunate ones it may last till the end of the pregnancy. The reason for nausea is still unknown. It can be emotional or physical. Whatever is the reason, during pregnancy nausea leads to bad eating habits. It is very important to eat a well balanced nutritional diet during pregnancy. But nausea brings an aversion for food in pregnant women and there is a tendency to skip meals. This affects the growth of the baby. Some caregivers are of the opinion that even if you don’t eat well, that will not affect the health of the baby; baby will take adequate nutrition from your system. This is proved as a completely wrong notion.

Some simple remedies of Nausea

Though all the cures may not work well with you, you may try certain things in order to over come nausea. The reasons for nausea may vary from person to person. Always try to eat small frequent meals high in proteins and complex carbohydrates instead of three big meals a day. You should not wait to get hungry before you eat. Frequent snaking helps to reduce nausea. But make sure you eat carbohydrates accompanied with protein or fiber. It is the lowering of blood sugar that causes nausea. So if you do not eat because you feel nausea, this in turn increases your nausea. So even if you do not feel like eating, try to munch something like nuts, cheese or crackers. It is advisable to snack just before your bedtime, because the time between your supper and breakfast is too long and it may cause the blood sugar to go too low. So to prevent this it is better to snack just before bed time or in the middle of the night. Make sure this bed time snack includes protein.

Dehydration is a threat to those with nausea. Try to hydrate yourself with lots of intake of fluids. But fruit juices are not advisable since it contains a lot of carbohydrates. Water is the best substitute. If you cannot tolerate a lot of fluids, try eating fruits with high level of water contents like melons. Ginger and lemon also help in getting rid of the feeling of nausea.

Some foods may acts as triggers for nausea problems during pregnancy, try to avoid those. The smell of some foods like fish and meat may trigger nausea as well. Substitute those with other foods which are equal in proteins and fibers. The thing to remember is you should be provided with the essential nutrients. You may try a variety of foods and be creative in your choice.
