Fisher Price Product Recalls

Posted In: Product Recall by Infant Care

At Fisher Price in order to keep consumers safe, regular checks are carried out on all of their products. If the product is found to be unsafe then it is immediately recalled, meaning anyone who bought the products is entitled to a full refund. Although it doesn’t happen all the time, it is something that goes on now and again and below are some various product recalls that Fisher Price have had in the past.

Learning Pots & Pans Recall

The learning pots and pans set is a collection of stacking pots and pans, meant to be for children to play with. A key safety measure was overlooked, as the screws in the centre of the model can potentially become loose, thus collapsing the inner ring and letting a lot of small ball bearings out which can potentially be a chocking hazard. For this reason they recalled the product.

Go Diego Go Animal Rescue Boat

The Go Diego Go product is a toy which can go in the bath and is a boat and a whale for children to play with. Fisher Price had been found to be using illegal amounts of lead in the paint, and thus called the recall. This is a particularly serious case, as if lead comes in contact with humans, there is a possible risk of death in the most serious cases.

Barbie Accessory Sets

Similar to the go Diego Go Animal rescue Boat, the Barbie accessory set was found to be using an illegal amount of lead in the painting of the house. Again, this could prove to be a fatality if it came into contact with a human and they had a bad reaction or swallowed some of the paint.

Only a small number of product recalls from Fisher Price have been shown, but it shows that Fisher Price keep up to date with their products and if they find a possible fault they do not pretend not to notice it, they pull them straight out allowing consumers to stay safe.

Calcilo XD Recalled by Abbott

Three days ago (30 May 2008), Abbott has announces voluntary worldwide recall of 2 Lots of Calcilo XD Low-Calcium/Vitamin D-Free Infant Formula with Iron Powder in 14.1-Ounce (400g) Cans. This type of infant formula, Carcilo XD, is used for nutrition support of infants with hypercalcemia when a low calcium, vitamin D-free formula is needed.

Abbott Nutrition of Columbus, Ohio, said that they recalled two lots of Calcilo XD because small amounts of air may have entered the can, resulting in product oxidation. A common sign of oxidation is an off aroma. The problem is isolated to these two lots of Calcilo XD Powder in 14.1-ounce (400g) cans.

They said that consumption of highly oxidized foods can cause gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. So, if you have purchased this kind of infant formula with lot numbers 39973RB or 47239RB6 you could see the number at the bottom of the Calcilo XD infant formula, or see the Photos Here). If parents have questions or concerns they should contact a health care professional. And to get more information about this infant formula recall, please contact the Abbott Nutrition company at: 1-800-638-6493.

I know that its a little bit late to publish this news here, but I think could help parents who have visited here to more aware with cold medications to their infants. Are you always give cold medications for your infants when they got cough? If so, you must read the FDA news which have been published about one and half months ago (January 17, 2008) below:

FDA Recommends that Over-the-Counter (OTC) Cough and Cold Products not be used for Infants and Children under 2 Years of Age:”
FDA has completed its review of information about the safety of over-the-counter (OTC) cough and cold medicines in infants and children under 2 years of age. FDA is recommending that these drugs not be used to treat infants and children under 2 years of age because serious and potentially life-threatening side effects can occur.

FDA’s recommendation is based on both the review of the information we received about serious side effects in children and the discussion and recommendations made at the October 18–19, 2007, public advisory committee meeting at which this issue was discussed. FDA strongly supports the actions taken by many pharmaceutical manufacturers to voluntarily withdraw cough and cold medicines that were being sold for use in this age group.

FDA has not completed its review of information about the safety of OTC cough and cold medicines in children 2 through 11 years of age. We are aware of reports of serious side effects from cough and cold medicines in children 2 years of age and older. FDA is committed to completing its comprehensive and thorough review of the safety of OTC cough and cold medicines in children 2 years of age and older as quickly as possible and expects to communicate our recommendations to the public in the near future.”

If you love your infants you must aware with that news on recall of cold medications for infants, please read the full news release here.
